Kern Family Foundation Grant Supports UNI Institute for Educational Leadership Training for Iowa Superintendents and Managers | Waverly Logs

The University of Northern Iowa’s outreach to Iowa education officials received a major boost thanks to a grant from the Kern Family Foundation.

The new five-year, $2.57 million grant to the College of Education will enable UNI’s Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) to expand Lead and Learn with Character, a program launched in 2018 and funded by a previous award from the Kern Family Foundation. The program provides professional development around character and ethical frameworks for Iowa school leaders, with a focus on Iowa’s rural districts. Through modelling, interaction and reflection, school leaders will improve their understanding of the importance and supporting strategies for developing a culture of character in their schools and neighborhoods.
