NALSAR Law University: 1st Gender Neutral Educational Institution in India

The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, NALSAR in Hyderabad is becoming the first gender-neutral educational institution in India. The institute has created a gender-neutral zone for students who identify as LGBTQ+. Not only that, but the educational institution has also implemented a gender-neutral living space within the campus to ensure that the space is truly inclusive.

“We are pleased to share that in our efforts to make our campus a truly inclusive space, the ground floor of GH-6 has been designated as a gender-neutral space with rooms assigned to students who self-identify as members. of LGBTQ+ community, with plans to evolve into a gender-neutral hostel in due course. The ground floor toilets in the university block have also been designated as gender-neutral toilets. The University has already put in place an interim policy to address the inclusion concerns of the LGBTQ+ community and is in the process of drafting a final policy,” the university tweeted while announcing its intention to make the campus gender-neutral.

The college will have a non-discrimination policy in place, which prohibits discrimination against students based on their clothing choices, hairstyles, etc. Scholarships for students will also be extended to LGBTQ+ members. In addition, special courses on gender and sexual minorities will be introduced to sensitize students.

According to the official statement, NALSAR University of Law will allocate rooms on the gender-neutral floor to students who identify as LGBTQ+. In addition, a bathroom on the ground floor of their university block has also been designated as “gender neutral” by the administration. The university has already put in place an interim policy to address concerns of the LGBTQ+ community around inclusion and is currently working on a final policy.

With this welcome move, NALSAR, the leading law institute, is on its way to becoming the country’s first fully gender-neutral campus. He is also spearheading an inclusive revolution, encouraging universities across the country to recognize and welcome the LGBTQIA+ community.
