We quickly moved from a culture of teaching to a culture of learning. Our response to the coronavirus outbreak last year demonstrated how technology can help transform the way we teach and learn. Now we have technology solutions at Chitkara that have the potential to transform and enhance the university ecosystem so that students can accomplish more and develop valuable skills with better results. Students were empowered to learn in a flexible, often collaborative way, both inside and outside of classrooms and at their own pace. Faculty members have access to individualized, real-time data on each student’s progress, both academic and emotional. Therefore, they can imagine new challenges and provide appropriate support for each child to move forward.

Encourage innovation and research

Only educational institutions that are at the forefront of innovation, have skilled human resources aligned with the industry, and have progressive leaders to support the whole cause can progress incrementally. At Chitkara University, we learned from this challenge to improve learning and teaching for the future. Regarding the university ecosystem, our CURIN research unit sets the research framework in place at the university level. Our academic team complements their efforts by innovating progressive educational processes to ensure results-based and industry-aligned learning. Our incubation centers cater for all interdisciplinary research ideas and provide a strong ecosystem to convert those ideas into startups. Our Center for Education and Entrepreneurship Development (CEED) has been a launching pad for many startups initiated by students as well as faculty members.

The technology in our classrooms has helped us recognize student patterns and certain conditions that may require intervention. We have become much better at supporting our students in their education, as well as in their social and emotional well-being. We describe this as not data-driven learning, but people-driven learning at Chitkara University.

Leverage industry-university collaboration

Industry-university collaboration is the main key to catalyzing innovation and technological growth. Both stakeholders have complementary contributions to this collaborative model where industry often focuses on solutions of commercial value while academia focuses on acquiring new knowledge through research and imparting education. specific to students for the accelerated development of new breakthroughs.

At Chitkara, we have leveraged our industrial collaborations to our advantage in terms of innovative ideas converted into industrial prototypes with numerous patents as by-products. Co-teaching by industry experts has helped our students effectively achieve their program specific outcomes (OSP). Industry laboratories have helped our researchers at CURIN find innovative solutions to various societal problems. In a nutshell, Chitkara University has leveraged industry collaborations to its distinct advantage.

Implementation of NEP 2020

Our education system will take a 360 degree turn once we fully implement NEP 2020 nationally. In my opinion, three aspects are the most relevant transformation results expected from the proposed NEP 2020.

First, it will help dropout students re-enter our education system. Second, as part of a higher education system, a four-year multidisciplinary undergraduate program with multiple exit options will help many students decide on their career options without any time constraints and they can work towards acquiring skills. knowledge according to their professional needs. Third, the NEP’s focus on integrating technology and e-learning into our mainstream education will help us move towards the digital transformation of our old education system based on the orthodox blackboard and chalk in a smart class.

Projects for the future

We are going to launch research-oriented programs in mixed mode in cutting-edge fields and even integrate transversal fields. The unique feature of these programs will be great academic flexibility and academic credit banking functionality. These programs will provide vertical and horizontal mobility to students to gain expertise in niche areas of the future.

Our Entrepreneurship and Innovation courses will now be offered as majors in all programs, giving a dramatic boost to our intellectual property. Chitkara aspires to go beyond her own credentials and continue to serve humanity with a holistic education.
